Nightjar Evenings
Choosing one of a selection of sites in and around Hamsterley Forest allows views of these fascinating visitors at very close range, sometimes at adistance of less than six foot. The forest is a vast area of woodland, where Nightjar can be found on most visits. Watching their wing–clapping display and hearing the churring on still nights is something that I look forward to each year. A memory that I never forget. Other birds that can be found during the evening can include Woodcock, Tawny Owl, Little Owl, Jay and Redpoll. Perhaps the hardest part of the evenings is coping with the insects that thrive on trying to spoil the evening, so if you are planning to try and find your own nightjars, I suggest you dress sensibly and use insect repellant as necessary.
